WORKSHOP WANDERINGS 10

A FLASH OF INSPIRATION?

This week I have been turning two drones for two English Double pipes that I am making in plum with boxwood mounts. It's fiddly work as each drone has 5 mounts to be made, glued in place, turned and polished. Today, while wielding the skew chisel, a flash of inspiration shot into my brain. It dawned on me that the skill of wood turning has many similarities to arc welding (a skill I acquired about 40 years ago).

I was so excited by this novel idea that I switched off my lathe to ponder it further and, blow me, I could not think of a single similarity. Any ideas? Answers on a Post Card please... (As far as I can tell no one reads this blog, so I don’t expect to hear from anyone about his).
